Steamed Dessert Buns 8 pitted dried dates, finely chopped
2 tsp corn syrup
1 oz toasted walnuts, finely chopped
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
10 oz pizza or french bread dough
1. To prepare filling, in small bowl, combine dates and corn syrup; mash
with spoon until fairly smooth. Stir in walnuts. 2. Sprinkle work
surface and a baking sheet each with 1 tablespoon flour. Divide dough into
8 equal portions and roll each into a ball. Roll each into a 3" round and
place a heaping teaspoon of filling in the center of each. Gather up
sides of dough and pinch together firmly at top to close, twisting to make
a firm seal. Place dumplings onto prepared baking sheet, cover with
plastic wrap and let stand 30 minutes. 3. Spray steamer rack with
nonstick cooking spray. In large saucepan, bring 1" water to a boil;
arrange 4 dumplings on prepared steamer rack and steam until cooked through
15 minutes. Remove to plate and keep warm; repeat with remaining
dumplings. Serving (1 dumpling) provides: 1/4 fat, 1/2 fr, 1 1/4 b, 20
cal. Per serving: 155 cal, 4 g fat, 0 g sat, 0 mg chol, 198 mg sod, 28 g
car, 1 g fib, 4 g pro, 7 mg calcium.
